Exumas: Staniel Cay

After a couple of days in Warderick Wells, we made our way to Staniel Cay, home of the famous Thunderball Grotto.  The James Bond movie was filmed here in the 60s and several others since then. 

Staniel Yacht Club, where we squeezed in among the megayachts for a day at the dock.  Staniel offers a couple of stores with essentials like ice cream, soda, and video rentals.  Also two restaurants.

A stopover in the Central Exumas for us both heading south to Georgetown and back north, we waited out bad weather in Staniel twice.  One sunny day we watched this big waterspout in horror for 15 to 20 minutes until it passed us to the north and pulled back up into the cloud.

The famous Thunderball Grotto is actually under the little islet to the left.   This underwater cave is a fantastic snorkel.  You gotta go at low tide slack water, and take peas and bread to feed all the fish.
