The Log of Indiscipline III |
08/2007 Vacation Cruise |

Here is the log of Indiscipline III for my voyage from San Diego's Mission
Bay to Ensenada, day sailing around Punta Banda and Islas de los Todos Santos, and return.
210 nautical miles. 5 gallons gas. 18 Tecates (beer). 10 days. |

The trip down was a run in 15 to 20 knots of breeze. Here you see my big air running rig - 135 jib poled out, main prevented, screaming downwind at never below 7 knots (helpful current). Often our speed was around 7.5 knots. Later I had to go to wing-and-wing with no loss of speed.

On the first day I ran down 20 miles to the South Coronado Island
anchorage. It was a windy, bumpy night until about 3 AM when it all settled down. Morning found me motoring south for about 4 hours until winds came up, and up, and UP! |

My fast trip down was never far offshore and I enjoyed watching the Baja scenery float by. |

My first good view of Islas de los Todos Santos, along with Punta Banda and Punta Morro, these islands frame the Bahia de los Todos Santos, a sailors paradise as I was to find out (consistent afternoon winds, calm seas, bright sun!). |

I was arriving in Ensenada, it began to get rather important to find the Marina Coral! |

There she is, my friendly home for the next 9 days! Now where is the marina entrance? |

Finally, I've arrived, complete with Mexican courtesy flag, Catalina 25
National Association flag, boom tent and umbrella (after 2 days I had quite enough sun). Double slips, very narrow fairways, close rocks, and strong cross winds make this a true test of single hand docking! |

My home for the next 9 days. Note the Spanish dictionary and ever-present coffee pot. |

It wasn't long before Karen and Heidi arrived by car and we began sightseeing. |
