The Log of Indiscipline III

Cruise 2004 Continued

It got a little rough rounding Ben Weston point.
Home for the next few days, Catalina's Little Harbor.
I loved this beautiful spot.
There's my kayak on the beach.
When friend Richard G arrived, we went for a climb.
Quite a view from up there.
Up bright and early the next day bound 28 miles northwest for Santa Barbara Island.  This is way offshore.

Great to have a buddy boat along for this daring passage..

Watching Catalina Island melt into the morning fog behind us.
First sight of Santa Barbara Island, its only 1 square mile, and about 50 miles from land.
Richard got this nice shot of his approach.
View from my SBI anchorage
How about those 2 Catalina 25s in this beautiful spot!
Richards boat from the ranger station.
View of the famous arch rock.
Landing on this island is a special challenge.
It can be rugged, foggy and windy.
On top of those steep cliffs, its a barren, empty island, home of many birds and seals.
Richard near the summit.
Magnificant desolation (to quote Buzz Aldrin about the moon).
Yes, I was there, too.
Richards little dinghy with the motor I dubbed "Old Reliable", and ESKA 2 HP air cooled model.
Sutil Island viewed from the South Summit.
Thank you Channel Island National Park
